High Protein Cheeseburger Wrap (with Spicy Sriracha Mayo)

Overview

These high protein & low fat cheeseburger wraps are a delicious & healthy alternative to a regular burger recipe which you definitely need to try! The recipe is incredibly simple to prepare and a great option for those who are trying to chase their protein and fitness goals.

One burger tortilla wrap contains ~40 grams of protein with being under 500 calories, making it a great everyday lunch or dinner recipe idea and at the same time a great alternative for whenever you’re feeling like having a cheat meal.

Ingredients for Cheeseburger Wrap Tortillas

  • Ground beef – As for this recipe I like to keep it on the healthier side, I recommend choosing a 95% lean / 5% fat consistency ground beef or a mix of ground beef and pork for preparing the burger patty. If you’re not interested in maximizing the proteins and lowering calories, you can choose whichever sort of ground beef you’d like to use. The ground beef can also be replaced entirely by ground pork, turkey or ground lean chicken.
  • Soft tortilla wrap – For this recipe I recommend to go with a large soft tortilla weighing usually about 60g or 2.1 ounces per piece. Personally for this recipe I’m using a regular tortilla but absolutely every tortilla option works great. If you’re looking to save calories and get in more fibers, then go with a whole wheat option. If you have a gluten intolerance, you can go with a gluten free option.
  • Cheese – I prefer to use a melted burger cheese slice as it is the most comfortable option. Most brands are quite high in proteins, melts fast on the burger patty and last for quite a long time in the fridge in their individual packaging. But again as for most ingredients, this can be replaced with any of your favorite cheese you want to use or is in your fridge.
  • Tomato – Go with a slice of a fresh, ripe sweet tomato as you would use between a regular burger recipe. Any tomato sort works, but the sweeter and juicier the tomato, the better.
  • Lettuce – I’m using Frillice Lettuce for this recipe as it has a neutral, yet fresh taste with a decent crunch to it and is often sold in smaller packages than other lettuce sorts. Yet any of your favorite sorts of lettuce will do just fine.
  • Onion – Red onions are my favorite to use in this recipe as they have a sweeter taste than white onions, making it a great option for burgers and burger wraps.
  • Pickles – A few slices of pickles are an amazing compliment to the flavors of regular burgers and also the same for this burger wrap recipe. Personally I love to use sweet & spicy pickles, marinated for example in garlic, chili peppers, dill and other great flavors. But you can go with your personal favorite brand or any sort you can find in your local store.
  • Sauce – For this recipe, I’m using a homemade Sriracha mayo sauce made with a mix of low fat mayo and sriracha sauce. A blend of these two sauces makes up a great new sauce that works incredibly well as a sauce for basically any dish, but especially goes well with burgers.

How to Make a Burger Wrap?

  1. Cut and slice the vegetables – Cut the tomato into medium thick slices and the onion into thin slices. Roughly chop or cut the lettuce into smaller pieces.
  2. Prepare the Sriracha mayo sauce – Mix the light mayo and sriracha sauce evenly with a spoon in a small bowl. This is the simplest option of making a light Sriracha mayo sauce, but you’re welcome to check out our favorite Sriracha Mayo recipe as well.
In case you don’t have an option to make Sriracha mayo, just go with any of your favorite sauces or for example a mix of ketchup and light mayo.
  3. Fry the burger patty on a pan or grill – Prepare the beef patty by molding the ground beef into a ~2 cm / ~0.8 inch thick round burger patty shape. Season the burger patty on both sides with freshly ground salt and pepper. Get the pan to medium heat (if not using a non-stick pan, then spray or drizzle a bit of olive oil on the pan before placing the patty on it). Fry the beef patty on the pan on medium heat for ~5-6 minutes on each side for medium and 7-8 minutes for a well done beef patty. Place the slice of cheese on top of the beef patty a minute before it’s done so it can melt a bit. Let the beef patty rest for a couple of minutes before placing it onto the tortilla.
  4. Prepare and wrap the tortilla – Place the tortilla on the cutting board and cut a straight line down the middle of the tortilla so it’s possible to fold it. It really doesn’t matter how you want to build it up and in which order you fold your burger wrap, but here’s how I normally do it:
    How to top the tortilla:
On the left bottom side, add the fried beef patty topped with cheese. On the top left side, add 6 slices of pickles. On the top right side of the tortilla, add first the chopped lettuce and a thick slice of tomato. Finally on the bottom right side of the tortilla, add the sauce and sliced onion rings on top of the sauce.
    How to wrap the tortilla:
Start from the bottom right side of the tortilla (the side with the sauce and onions in it) and fold it on top of the top right side, then to the top left and finally on the bottom left side. Be careful that the ingredients don’t fall out from the wrap while folding it.
  5. Brown the wrapped tortilla on the pan until crispy on both sides
Heat up the pan to low/medium heat and place the wrapped tortilla on the pan. Grill it for a minute or until it starts to get golden brown. Flip it and do the same for the other side.
  6. Enjoy! Bon Appétit
