Tzatziki Sauce - Homemade Greek Yogurt Dip Recipe

Fresh and tasty Greek yogurt sauce with cucumber and garlic. This healthy and protein-rich Tzatziki sauce can be made in less than 5 minutes and is perfectly used as a dip or as a sauce for a variety of foods.

Ingredients
  

  • 200 ml / 0.9 cup of Greek yogurt
  • Half of a long cucumber ~150 g / 5 oz
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp of olive oil
  • 0.5 tsp of salt

Optional

  • 1 tsp of white wine vinegar

Instructions
 

  • Grate the cucumber finely or cut it into small cubes.
  • Squeeze the juice from the grated cucumber through a clean cheesecloth, a thin towel, etc.
  • Chop 1 tablespoon of fresh dill.
  • Press with a garlic press into a paste or finely chop 1 clove of garlic.
  • Mix together Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, chopped dill, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil and season with salt. Mix everything into a smooth sauce, taste and add salt if necessary.
  • Place the sauce in the refrigerator before serving for at least 10 minutes, preferably at least an hour.
  • If desired, garnish with chopped dill and serve. For example, pita bread or other crispy bread, carrots, cucumbers or other vegetables are great to be served on the side.
