Ingredients for Deviled Eggs
- Eggs – it’s best to use medium or large size chicken eggs for this recipe.
- Light mayonnaise – My personal favorite in this recipe is Hellmann’s light mayonnaise, which is slightly lower in fat and has a great flavor. If you don’t mind the calories, go for any of your favorite mayonnaise brands.
- Mild mustard – adds a nice spiciness to the recipe. Dijon mustard is also very good to use here.
Optional but recommended:
- Paprika powder – paprika powder or smoked paprika powder adds a nice flavor and is good to add to both the deviled eggs filling and as a garnish.
- Crispy bacon – crispy bacon cooked in the oven and chopped is perfect as a delicious garnish on top of deviled eggs. To make crispy bacon, just place the bacon slices on a baking tray in a 200°C / 395°F oven for 10-15 minutes or until the bacon has turned visibly crispy. Remove the bacon from the oven, let it cool a bit and chop it into small pieces.
- White wine vinegar – a little white wine vinegar adds a nice flavor to the egg filling. Be careful when adding it, because too much vinegar can drown out all the other flavors.
- Fresh herbs – chopped chives, green onions, parsley, or other herbs are great for a bright garnish or optionally also used as a deviled egg filling as well.
How to Make the Best Deviled Eggs?
- Boil the eggs and let them cool in ice water – Cover the eggs in a cooking pot with cold water and cook over medium heat for 9-10 minutes from the moment the water starts to boil. Drain the water and place the eggs in ice cold water for a few minutes until they have cooled completely.
- Peel the eggs, cut in half and remove the yolks – Carefully peel the eggs one by one, trying to break the shape of the egg as little as possible when peeling. Cut the eggs in half lengthwise, carefully remove the yolks from the egg whites and place them in a separate mixing bowl.
- Prepare the egg filling – Add mayonnaise and mustard to the egg yolks. Also add paprika powder, white wine vinegar or other seasonings, if using them in the recipe. Mix everything well with a fork until smooth. If you want a particularly creamy and presentable egg filling, press the entire mixture through a sieve to make the mixture creamier and to remove any lumps. Taste the egg filling and add salt if desired.
- Place the egg filling back into the halved egg whites – if possible, place the egg filling in a piping bag/saucer bag to make it easier to squeeze onto the egg whites. If you don’t have these tools at home, you can simply spoon the egg filling into the egg whites.
- If desired, decorate the filled eggs with various toppings and serve – before serving, I recommend sprinkling a little paprika powder, chopped herbs and crispy bacon.

Deviled eggs last up to 2 days when stored in the refrigerator. To keep their tasty and fresh flavor, always store them in an airtight container and in the colder part of the refrigerator(not near the door).
